Dr. Ilona Fotek and our team work hard to ensure patients are educated about their oral health and know how to take care of their teeth and gums outside of the office. We offer several preventive care services using natural dentistry methods to help patients ward off cavities, reduce the risk of gum disease, and maintain healthy gums and teeth at any stage of life.
Preventive dentistry is essential for reducing the risk of serious and costly dental procedures throughout your lifetime. We educate our patients on proper brushing and flossing techniques, a healthy diet, and the importance of maintaining regular dental visits.

We will perform a thorough exam of the tongue, soft tissues inside of the mouth, and the face and neck area to check for any lumps, bumps, or abnormalities. An oral pathology exam is designed to diagnose precancerous and cancerous lesions in and around the mouth. We will perform an oral cancer screening at least once per year.

Dental sealants can be very effective for protecting growing teeth from tooth decay. This is why we often add sealants to the treatment plan of patients who are under 12 years of age. Sealants are very thin, BPA-free plastic coatings applied to the grooves of the back teeth to protect these surfaces from harmful bacteria. The placement of sealants is completely painless and serves to help children maintain healthy teeth.

All patients need to come in for a dental exam at least twice per year and have their teeth professionally cleaned at the same time. Patients with a history of gum disease may need to come in for more frequent cleanings to prevent plaque and tartar buildup, which can lead to the progression of this infection. We can prepare a custom treatment plan with a recommended timeline of visits during your natural dentistry consultation.

Children should visit Dr. Fotek after the first tooth erupts and every six months thereafter. This is the perfect time to establish a good homecare routine and ensure children adopt healthy oral care habits to take with them through adulthood. We may recommend dental sealants to reduce the risk of tooth decay between the ages of six and 12 years.
